Running in Hot Weather
Here are a collection of old tips for handling the heat when running:
- Wear visor or cap, and dunk in stream - this will keep head cool. I love my Saucony visor, and in my opinion visors are better than caps for keeping cool but shaded.
- Pour water on quads - they are large muscles which generate a lot of heat - cooling them will cool your whole body.
- Pour water on head and wash salt off face (which blocks pores and makes you hotter).
- Have someone give you an ice lolly at an aid station on the way round!
- Even when it is not that hot, it is important to try and keep as cool as possible during a race, especially an ultra.
