Day 16 - Grindelwald Mürren and Gimmelwald
2025 Switzerland day 16
Travel Log
It was to be another really hot day today. We left the chalet about 9am and headed for Lauterbrunnen and wanted to explore a bit more of Mürren. Mürren in the early morning before it was too hot and too busy was absolutely delightful. We picked up some fresh bread in the Coop and had amazing coffee and smoothies at an Intersport cafe.
We then took the funicular up to Allmendhubel which had such and nice playground and such good views that we stayed for an hour and half. By now it was really quite hot for the walk down but at least there was a bit of a breeze. The trails were quiet and it was really nice walking. Because we weren’t too high it was still green and with trees, unlike the high elevation stuff which can be really quite barren.
We continued down from Mürren to Gimmelwald which is a gem. Really authentic with mountain chalets, colourful gardens, and honesty shops. It just felt rustic and like a forgotten corner of the Alps.
The cable car down was a bit janky as it only seemed to work every other journey so we had a long wait in the heat.
We headed back to Grindelwald and straight to the outdoor swimming pool to cool off. The kids loved this and spent the entire time just going on the slide, time after time after time.
In the evening we watched the rest of the second Hunger Games movie on DVD.
