Day 13 - Cycle South Rim
Cycle tour South Rim · South rim view points
Travel Log
We checked out of our hotel very early to make it over to the bike store for our cycle ride. They also did delicious lattes. We had arranged a shuttle to take us to the highest point on the rim. We then rode around 5 miles downhill before being collected again. It was the very manageable for the kids, Thea had a little tag along. Thea very sweetly repeatedly insisted that Nick stop peddling and relaxed and she would peddle for them - she actually did a great job!
This became our new favourite activity of the holiday. Because we left early we had the view points to ourselves, the road was empty with only the occasional passing shuttle bus and we passed a herd of Bighorn sheep. It was magical. We would love to do a longer ride next time, it was the perfect way to see the national park.
After our ride finished (and a brief downpour) we headed out the east entrance of the park stopping at view points on the way finishing with Desert view watchtower. We then headed to Cameron trading post where we had a delicious lunch/dinner (due to the time changes again on entering the reservation we were very confused and lunch turned into dinner). Nick had a Navajo Taco, the local speciality of beef, beans, green chili, on a Navajo flatbread. We finally reached our hotel around 6pm, the kids had time for a quick swim in the hotel pool before bed.
