Day 9 - Monument Valley
Monument valley tour · Driving
Travel Log
We had an early start as had to get on the road by 7:30 for our monument valley tour. It was difficult to leave the luxurious Bluff resort but we have promised ourselves we will be back (it was a pleasant surprise to work our that Bluff is only 3.5 hours from Ridgway, our other favourite place/future home!).
We started the drive with a delicious coffee and scone from a quirky roadside coffee shop. The owner said that this is the first day in two months that the temperature is less than 100F. Actually a good thing for our tour of Monument Valley. The drive to monument valley was beautiful. We arrived with time to spare but then discovered we had gone to the wrong meeting place and had a frantic race to get to the right one, luckily they had waited for us. We were so greatful as the tour was wonderful - it was very informative about Navajo culture as well as obviously incredibly scenic.
We then had a long drive to Sedona, still not quite sure how long it took as the time changed en route maybe more than once as the Navajo nation does not observe daylight saving time. We seemed to gain an hour overall but had 3-4 hours of driving and once we had left Monument Valley the landscape was vast and bleak. We made a couple stops to stretch our legs including an some dinosaur footprints and another Walmart, which again ate away at our time and money. We finally arrived in Sedona around 6:30pm (but was 7:30pm our previous time) exhausted. The kids still managed to find the energy for a quick swim in the pool before bed. The new holiday house is pretty awesome.
